The Port of Sheerness handles over 450,000 tonnes per year of high value forest products including pulp, packaging paper, printing paper, sheet material and lumber.
Medway Ports offers a total package of stevedoring, warehousing and distribution services. Deep-sea liner services are handled from North and South America. The major forest product trade areas of Scandinavia and the Baltic are also served.
There are over 65,000 square metres of high quality warehousing dedicated to the storage of forest products (pic of warehouse). There are also 10 acres of outside storage space for lumber. Sheerness is a Free Zone, which allows for the suspension of VAT and customs duties.
In all aspects of the operation Sheerness Forest Products Terminal has a damage free philosophy. Plant and equipment is maintained on site by Linde Material Handling (South East) Ltd. There are regular reviews of skills, aptitude and training of warehouse and vessel operatives.
The completion of the Swale Crossing in July 2006 has enhanced road connections giving easy access to the UK motorway network. The Port is also rail connected.
Through Medway Ports IT department stock control systems and bar code reading facilities are available. Systems can be tailored to meet specific customer requirements.
